How to Make Your Own Homemade Shaving Cream Using Essential Oils

Happy Friday, all you fantastic Moppers. We hope you had an awesome week and didn’t work too hard. Even if you did, the weekend is almost here so you can make up for it by playing harder…or relaxing on the couch. Whatever suits your fancy.

As usual, it’s been a busy week around here. We’ve been cleaning our butts off, and experimenting a little with essential oils, as we like to do. This week we came up with something amazing that we just had to share with you all, and while it isn’t a cleaning product per se, it definitely fits into the realm of health and beauty supplies that will definitely save you money in the long run.

And who doesn’t like saving money?

So sit back and marvel as this week we show you how to make your own shaving cream using the power of essential oils!

What You’ll Need:

  • 2/3 cup of shea butter
  • 2/3 cup of virgin coconut oil
  • 1 wooden spoon
  • 1/4 cup of olive oil
  • 12 drops of lavender essential oil
  • 7 drops of peppermint essential oil
  • 1 mixing bowl
  • Hand mixer, or stand mixer
  • 2 teaspoons of baking soda

Step 1: Heat

Using a small saucepan, heat the shea butter and coconut oil on the stove over low heat. Stir to combine them using a wooden spoon, and continue stirring until just melted. Take off the heat.

Step 2: Add the Essential Oils

Once the saucepan is off the burner, add in the lavender essential oil, and the peppermint essential oil, as well as the olive oil.

Step 3: Transfer & Cool

After you’ve added the essential oils and olive oil, transfer the mixture to a bowl, and place it in the refrigerator to cool until hardened.

Step 4: Whip

When the mixture has hardened, take it out of the fridge, add two teaspoons of baking soda, and mix it with your hand mixer, or stand mixer, until everything is light and fluffy. This should take about 3 minutes. The baking soda will work to remove oils from your skin, making for a cleaner shave, and it also acts as a skin exfoliant).

Step 5: Bottle & Store

Spoon your shaving cream into a container with a lid, and store in a cool, dry place. We just keep it under the bathroom sink, and that seems to do the trick.

That’s all there is to it. We tried this homemade shaving cream on our legs this week, and let us tell you…it definitely does the trick. Our skin was so soft and smooth after shaving, and our skin felt nice and moisturized. Chances are we’ll never go back to buying it at the store ever again.

Oh, and the best part? Because of the added essential oils, this shaving cream smelled great, and since we know every ingredient in it (and can pronounce them), we feel confident using this on our skin, rather than taking our chances with something that was made in a factory.

Give it a try for yourself this weekend, and see for yourself how amazing it is. We’re sure that like us, you’ll never use store-bought again.

That’s it for now, Moppers. We hope you have a great weekend, and we’ll chat with you again next week. Until then, stay safe, and stay clean!
