Happy Friday, all you amazing Moppers. The day we’ve all been waiting for is finally here, and after this wonky week all we can say is hooray! From crabby weather, to the post-Easter grind, it’s definitely been an interesting few days, and we’ll be glad to take a load off for a few hours this weekend.
The one good thing that came out of this past week was, of course, cleaning. We got to make people’s home shine, and that puts a big smile on our faces. You know what else puts a smile on our faces?
We’ve talked about cleaning hacks and life hacks here on the blog before, and this week we thought we’d have some fun and do it again, because there are so many out there you can do to help make your life easier.
So let’s get to it, shall we? Here are a few cleaning hacks you can start doing right now to cut back on your time spent doing chores.
Looking for an easy way to clean crusty bits off the inside of your microwave? Simply place four lemon wedges in a glass bowl filled with water, and microwave that on high until the water boils and steams for a minute or two. When you’re done, carefully take the glass bowl out using an oven mitt, and wipe down the microwave with a clean, damp cloth. Voila! All clean.
Here’s an easy way to clean your sink right after you’ve cleaned the microwave. Take those lemon wedges that were in the boiled water, and squeeze all the juice from them into your sink. Sprinkle some baking soda over the juice, pour in a spoonful of white vinegar, and wipe everything down. When you’re done, rinse your sink and marvel at its luxurious shine.
It can be a drag vacuuming the entire house each week, right? Here’s a hot tip for you: place your vacuum cleaner in a different room each night, and when you wake up in the morning give the room a vacuum while you’re having your morning coffee. It takes virtually no time at all, and it will actually save you time later on in the week.
Alternately, you can have the person that spends the most time in those rooms vacuum it for you.
The Coffee Pot
You’ve probably heard this one before, but it bears repeating. To clean your coffee pot, all you have to do is pour some white vinegar into the water reservoir, run it through once unfiltered, followed by a pot of water run through it also unfiltered to get rid of the vinegar remains. Presto! A clean coffee pot is now at your disposal.
Don’t have any essential oils kicking around the home you can freshen things up with? No problem! Instead, cut three lemons in half and place them in a pot of water on the stove. Bring it to a boil, then simmer on medium-low for a while to fill your home with a fresh, citrus scent.
Bonus Tip: When the water cools down to a warmer temperature, you can dip a cloth in that lemony goodness and use it to spot clean your counters. How great is that?
Out of cleaner for your mirrors and don’t want to run to the store to get some? Easy! Place some warm water into a bowl along with a wedge of freshly squeezed lemon juice. Damped a clean cloth in there and use it to wipe down your spotty mirrors, followed by another clean cloth to wipe them dry.
Pretty cool, right? You’ll notice that most of these hacks involve lemon somehow, and that’s because lemon not only works as a great cleaner, but a fantastic disinfectant as well because it’s able to kill most of the bacteria found in the home. Especially in the kitchen and bathroom.
So go forth, Moppers, and hack your way to a cleaner home this weekend.
Until next week, stay safe…and stay clean!
